Cross promotion: Bollywood's new publicity gimmick

Two upcoming films have come up with the brainwave of cross promotion, taking Bollywood publicity gimmicks to a new level.

Ajay Devgn's much-hyped Diwali release, Son Of Sardaar, and the 3D sci-fi film Makkhi will be piggybacking on the box-office draw of each other for the right amount of marketing.
On one hand, Makkhi has accommodated a spoof sequence of a trademark scene featuring Ajay standing tall on two galloping horses in Son Of Sardaar.

In the sci-fi flick, the hero - a housefly out to avenge human - is seen striking a similar pose on two smaller flies.

While the spoof shot should work wonders in creating hype for Ajay's film considering Makkhi will release first on October 12, the Son Of Sardaar star in return has agreed to do the voiceover narration for the sci-fi film.
Makkhi will also have Ajay's signature dialogue from Singham, 'Ata majhi satkeli', in a sequence.
The makers of Makkhi have wasted no time to highlight these facts as part of their promotional activity.
The common point for both the films happens to be the director of Makkhi, S.S. Rajamouli. Ajay's Son Of Sardaar is actually a remake of Rajamouli's Telugu superhit, Maryada Ramanna.
On the other hand, Makkhi is the Hindi version of the same film that the filmmaker released in Telugu as Eega, which has become a blockbuster.
While cross promotion between Bollywood films and TV shows has been common over the past few years, this is probably the first time that two films have resorted to the trick.
