Delhi to speed up installation of set-top boxes

New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday declared that the Delhi Government would facilitate complete implementation of the digitisation process of television signals by educating people on the benefits of getting set-top boxes installed on their premises.
Speaking at a meeting with Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni at Delhi Secretariat, in which Delhi Chief Secretary, Excise Commissioner and Additional Secretary Revenue were also present, the Chief Minister said her government would also create public awareness about digitisation of television through a media campaign.

DELHI BEHIND OTHER METROS

At the meeting, Ms. Soni is learnt to have stated that Delhi was behind the other metros as far as installation of set-top boxes was concerned. It was pointed out that Delhi has covered 70 per cent of its consumers through set-top boxes whereas the figure was much higher in Mumbai at 90 per cent and Kolkata at 77 per cent.
Ms. Soni said the shift to digital mode would take place in phases. She said from November 1, the transmission of signals would be shifted to digital mode.
Ms. Dikshit also instructed the Excise Department and Revenue Department to work in tandem to ensure maximum coverage to the scheme and observed that digitalisation would usher in a new era of transmission which would provide better picture quality to television viewers.
